1Who we are
MyAfromania is an African fashion and accessories store based at Billings Bridge Shopping Complex in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We also host a marketplace where independent designers and artisans sell their work. This policy explains what personal information we collect through myafromania.com and in our store, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
By using our website or placing an order you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the store.
- Details you give us: your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping addresses, and your order history when you shop or create an account.
- Messages and sign-ups: what you send through our contact forms or by email, and your email address if you join our mailing list.
- Payment details: you enter card and wallet details directly with our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number.
- Automatic information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and cookies, so the site works and stays secure.
3How we use your information
- To process, ship and support your orders, and send order updates.
- To create and manage your account.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To send news, offers and stories, only where you have chosen to receive them.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, and to keep the website secure.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
4Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with people who help us run the store, and only what they need:
- Payment providers: Stripe processes card and wallet payments. If you choose Affirm, Klarna or Afterpay at checkout, that provider also receives your payment details under its own policy.
- Shipping providers: carriers and shipping tools receive your name, address and contact details to deliver your order.
- Independent vendors: when you buy a product sold by a designer or artisan on our marketplace, they receive what they need to fulfil that order, such as your name and delivery address.
- Email and website services: companies that send our emails, host and protect the website (including Cloudflare and our hosting provider), and Google, for spam protection (reCAPTCHA) and the map on our Contact page.
- Authorities: when the law requires it, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
5Cookies
Cookies are small files saved on your device. We use them to:
- keep your cart, login and checkout working;
- remember your wishlist and recently viewed items;
- protect forms and checkout from spam and attacks;
- understand which pages are popular.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site, such as the cart and checkout, will not work without the essential ones.
6Marketing emails
We only send marketing emails if you sign up or tick the box to receive them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also contact us at any time to be removed. Order and account emails are not marketing, so you will still get those.
7Where your information is stored
Our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens, your information can be accessed under the laws of that country. We choose providers who protect personal information.
8How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reasons above, including to meet tax, accounting and legal requirements. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymise it.
9Keeping it safe
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls, to protect your information. No website or storage method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10Your choices and rights
Under Canadian privacy law you can ask to:
- see the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong or out of date;
- withdraw your consent to marketing or other optional uses;
- close your account and have your information deleted, where the law allows.
You can update your account details yourself in My Account, or email us and we will help. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
11Children
Our website is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
12Links to other websites
Our site may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing personal information.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. If we make a significant change, we will make it clear on the website.
